Everyone with a projected S6 job
will go into the S6-track course, while everyone else will go into the MapEx/FTX
track. You will apply the knowledge you learned in the
S6 class.
To get into the S6 track, you simply sign up in class. If you do
not want to go into the MapEx/FTX track, sign up for the S6 track.
There is no check to ensure S6s go into the S6 track or that non-S6s (and
those who don't know what their position will be) go into the MapEx/FTX
track.
S6s have shorter days (during both the MapEx and FTX), and do not go into
the field (except for the last day of the FTX). Their days usually
start at 1000 and end at 1400. In between, they have classes on
radios. They may also volunteer to be OPFOR for the FTX convoys.
You will not learn much of anything on the FTX (except that A/442 does not
maintain their equipment). There is no advantage to going on the FTX--it
is a complete waste of time.
