Don't just sit back and watch
the time go by. Augusta is located in the heart of the Southeast, so
grab a buddy and take a road trip. You don't have homework (and trust
me, you don't need to study) so there isn't any reason to stick around for a
weekend.
If you think you want to stay in Augusta to check out the city--don't
bother. You'll eventually have a weekend where you don't have a place
to go and you'll be able to see Augusta at that time.

Here are the best places to go.
Football Game Trips:
You'll have a good time at all of these colleges, and
you'll get to see some quality football. However, you will have a much
better time if you know someone who goes to school in your destination city.
You'll have the most fun staying on campus or in a student apartment.
Athens is about a 2 hour
drive from Augusta. You can make it a day trip, but I would
definitely suggest finding someone to stay with on campus.
Definitely don't try the go for the game, party all night long and
drive back routine. I had a friend fall asleep at the wheel
doing that, and he almost killed himself and the two other guys in the
car.
football fun:
The fans in this town, like most SEC towns, are damn proud of their
football team.
bonus points: As far as
mascots go, UGA rules.
nightlife: Athens is a small, and
the bars/clubs are clustered together in the center of town--so you
don't have any trouble stumbling from bar to bar. The folks
generally stick to themselves and aren't the friendliest in the world.
It definitely helps if you are there with someone who actually goes to
the school.
buying tips: BRING MONEY!
You're going to have to pay for these tickets. Georgians love
their Bulldogs and are willing to pay to see them play.
$$$: Be
prepared to get robbed by the "ticket reseller."

Atlanta is about a 2 hour
drive from Augusta. This city has it all as far as sports are
concerned: Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, and is host to
Georgia Tech. Make sure you check the listings for any concerts
going on in town--there's always something to satisfy your tastes,
whatever they may be. Friday night concert? You'll make
it--I did.
football fun:
Nothing really stands out about a game at Georgia Tech. The fans
are tame and the team is just okay. At least the tickets are
cheap.
bonus points: Hotlanta
nightlife and the big city activities give this destination a huge
boost.
nightlife: Atlanta has plenty of
it. Clubs? Bars? Head straight to Buckhead in northern
Atlanta and you'll find all the clubs and bars you could possibly
want. Atlanta has all the big ones in one concentration, which
makes it doubly easy for the visitor who doesn't know his way around
town. As for a place to stay, priceline a hotel room in Buckhead
with a bunch of your friends. You'll need a place to crash after
all the partying you're going to do.
buying tips: None.
$$$:
Football tickets won't cost you, but the boozing will.

Clemson is in the middle
of nowhere, so grab your map and be prepared for a drive through the
backwoods.
football fun:
Clemson fans are crazy about their team. Too bad their team
can't give back any love to their fans.
bonus points: None.
The town is tiny and hardly worth mentioning, and the football is
mediocre.
nightlife: You'd better know
someone who goes to school there or you're not going to find the
party.
buying tips: None.
$:
There isn't a lot to spend money on out there.

Columbia's just 70 miles
up the road from Augusta. You can definitely make this a day
trip, or even a party all night and drive back trip. Just make
sure you have your designated driver set and willing to make the trip.
football fun:
The fans are loud and proud. These fans are greatly underrated
and like to have a good time, especially in the stands. Be
prepared to get rowdy and have some fun.
bonus points: The short
drive is a plus, as are the cheap tickets.
nightlife: Columbia does have a
nice cluster of bars and clubs downtown. If you want to relax in
overstuffed couches, play some pool/darts, and watch some college
football, head to Jillian's. Up for dueling pianos?
Then head to Crocodile Rocks. If you're just looking for
a place to dance, then head over to Banana Joe's, which has a
packed dance floor in one room, and a live rock band in the other.
buying tips: Walk laps around the
Stadium until kickoff. Strike a hard bargain with the drunkest
person you can find. You shouldn't have any trouble getting
tickets. I'll be surprised if you have to pay more than $20 for
a ticket. I bought my Georgia-South Carolina tickets for $5
each.
$: The
tickets are cheap, and the drinks are a bargain as well.

Florida fans are some of
the best in the land. They absolutely love their team and loathe
the opposition. Gainesville is a bit of a drive, but don't
worry, you'll have a good time.
football fun:
Obnoxiously loyal.
bonus points: None. I
hate the University of Florida.
nightlife: Gainesville has a ton
of bars and clubs dotting the landscape. But be warned, you
might feel left out if you're not out partying with someone who
actually goes there.
buying tips: You'll pay.
$$$:
The "ticket resellers" win big on this deal.

Knoxville is about a 4
hour drive from Augusta. If you know someone from the area, this
trip is a must. On football Saturdays, the whole town is painted
in Volunteer Orange and the town is absolutely packed with people.
Do not try to drive into town on Saturday morning, you will be stuck
in an endless stream of traffic. Parking is also tight downtown.
Try to park in front of a fraternity house so you are near the
tailgating tents, and within walking distance of Neyland Stadium
football fun:
The town is packed with orange-clad Volunteer fans. The stadium
seats over 100,000 people and is a sea of orange.
bonus points: Neyland
Stadium sits right on the river for a gorgeous backdrop.
nightlife: Knoxville has plenty of
it. If you don't know somebody who goes to the school, make
friends fast. Charlie's is a great outdoor bar with a live band
and packed tables, but make sure you arrive early. The best
clubs are located in the seedy section of town. Get your
partying done early though, you're in the bible belt.
scalping tips: You'll have to pay
a little bit of money for your tickets, but not too much.
Anything more than $40 is a rip off. You may be able to go as
low as $20. Try to wait until right before kick off to buy a
ticket.
$$:
This town is cheap.

Tallahassee is
approximately 5 hours from Augusta. If you're looking for a
party town, this is it. This place gets packed for football
Saturdays, so reserve your hotel room MONTHS in advance. For the
more adventurous, park your car along in the grass along the side of
Pensacola street Friday night and camp out Friday night (after hitting
up the bars of course). You will wake up to find that the party
has come to you. All the tailgaters will be around you.
Make sure you bring plenty of beer (I suggest a keg in the back of a
truck) to help you introduce yourself to the locals.
football fun:
The fans in this town, like most SEC towns, are damn proud of their
football team.
bonus points: Great
nightlife.
nightlife: The bars and clubs are
on Tennessee Street. Try Bullwinkle's, which has an outdoor tiki
bar and an indoor club all in one.
scalping tips: You will pay dearly
for your tickets. If a ticket sounds even remotely like a good
deal, it is. For big games, you will be hard pressed to find
tickets for less than $40 (they are there, but you have to try really
hard). For once, the closer to the stadium that you walk and the
closer to kick off do not affect the ticket price. The scalpers
do not care, they would rather eat the tickets than sell them cheaply.
Be on the lookout for fake tickets. If you doubt a ticket's
validity, ask the scalper to walk you up to the gate before you give
him any money.
$$$: Be
prepared to get robbed by the scalpers.
