OP-ED 14March2003 - Response to Garofalo

It truly is astonishing that these people can still consider themselves patriotic Americans. They care more about the butcher of Baghdad, then they care about American lives. They will not be happy until our wonderful nation is ruled by the United Nations. And their argument that hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis will die in the liberation of Iraq is shear lunacy. Don't they realize that more than this will die this year alone if that genocidal maniac is left in power? That butcher is right up there with Hitler, Milosovich, Stalin, and so many other mass murderers that I can't count them all. Of course war is atrocious, it is supposed to be. If it wasn't, we would never try to solve things peacefully. But there are, unfortunately, times when war is necessary. We need to spare the United States and many other nations the repeat of September 11, 2001.

Would Miss Garofalo have preferred that we had never fought the tyranny of King George III of England? If we were the colony of England still, she would, I'm sure, be thrilled beyond belief. I recently refreshed myself with the details of the Sedition Act. These appeasers would do well to read it carefully. I suggest that if they hate our honorable, Godfearing President, Mr. George W. Bush, then I'm certain that the coward, morale-less countries like France, Germany, Russia, and China would love to accept them as citizens. You have the right to your opinions, to dissent, to even protest. But you never have the right to sell other nations financial interest in a terrorist nation as the best interest of our great nation.

Would the Hollywood axis of deceivers be satisfied with hundreds of thousands of American innocents murdered? They certainly didn't find 3000 lives lost on 9-11 unacceptable. I wonder at times, when I hear so much disrespect of our servicemen and women, if we truly appreciate the sacrifice of our soldiers who gave their lives so readily in all our wars so that we can be free. God help us to never forget their selfless acts on our behalf. Will I miss my cousins in Kuwait if they are called upon to give their lives for my freedom? You better believe I will.

I cry now as I write this, that I may never see my cousins again. Their wiliness to serve our nation when many would revile it, allows me to believe that we still have hope as a nation. I pray for a swift victory against Saddam and his cronies. I hope that none of our brave men and women involved in this have to die. But I promise you that I will never forget their sacrifices. My children will learn from me the great cost of freedom, of my cousin who died with so many others in the Bataan death march in WWII. They will learn of my four Uncles who left their families to go fight the enemies of democracy in WWII. Did they want to go? No, they would have preferred to stay and care for their families. But this cause of freedom, the greatest cause ever is never without sacrifice. What Miss Garofalo fails to understand is that to do nothing as our "allies" want us to do, will cost us more than we might be able to afford. She obviously is willing to take that gamble. She and her friends are willing to gamble with my life, your life, and our children's lives. I am grateful that President Bush is not willing to do that. Let's not pass the problems of today on to our children, when possibly the problem will be too big for our children to handle. D.H.
